Starting this journey with Communa has been nothing short of exciting. It all began with the bare bones of our house—a blank canvas filled with endless possibilities. The main aim we envisioned was to create a space that feels cosy, aesthetically inviting, and highly practical for everyday living. This was not just about building a house but crafting a home that reflects our love for connection, warmth, and a shared love language: cuddling. Welcome to the House of Cuddles, where every detail is designed to invite comfort, intimacy, and joy. Here is the layout of the house. We got ourselves a 3-gen flat. I had to let go of my dream of having an open kitchen thanks to the area cannot be hacked but we surely will find other ways to open up the space :)

As we stood in the empty rooms, one of the first considerations was ensuring the house was insect-proof, particularly from cockroaches. Living in comfort means feeling at ease in every corner of the home, and that starts with maintaining a clean and pest-free environment. From well-sealed windows and doors to choosing materials and finishes that deter pests, we prioritized solutions that would keep our sanctuary safe and serene. This was non-negotiable as we wanted our home to be a haven where nothing interrupts the peace. So insect nets and drainage hacks here we come!

Another priority was cultivating a light and airy atmosphere where natural sunlight could flow freely. There’s something magical about waking up to the gentle warmth of sun rays filling the room or enjoying a cup of tea in a space that feels open and bright. The alleyway that leads up to the rooms was a dark spot and we had to consider how to maximize natural light. We then decided to hack some walls to bring in light, ensuring the house feels vibrant and alive throughout the day.

We also dreamt of creating extra hosting space wherever possible. As a family that cherishes togetherness and shared moments, having a home that could easily adapt to accommodate guests was essential. Whether it’s a cozy nook for intimate gatherings or a larger area for festive celebrations, the flexibility to host while maintaining comfort was a central theme in our design choices. We came to a conclusion. Let’s remove the wall between the 2 common rooms not for a walk in wardrobe but for a workshop room and an open space that can act as an extra space for guests when they come over or for all the kids to hang out in while the adults party outside. On normal days, we can also use it as our work space and maybe I can start my art workshops in here :)

These two walls will be hacked half so light can flow through these windows and reach the hall :)

Finally, the aesthetic direction was clear: a blend of colonial and Indochine vibes. This fusion of elegance and timeless charm is something that deeply resonates with us. From intricate wooden details to patterned tiles and neutral palettes with pops of character, we wanted the home to tell a story that bridges the past and the present. These elements, combined with our focus on practicality and comfort, are slowly coming together to shape the House of Cuddles—a space where love, connection, and style meet. Stay tuned as we bring this vision to life! Tile shopping is definitely going to be a challenge!

I love hotel/resort toilets, especially those with an ambiance. That feeling of just unwinding and taking a long warm shower. I can’t wait to add some flair to this space. Let’s hope my husband doesn’t sit in the bathroom longer that usual once it’s all done up !
