The service yard might not be the most glamorous part of the home, but it definitely plays a big role in keeping things running smoothly, especially with a toddler in the house. This week, I’m sharing how we designed ours to be functional, fuss-free, and as tidy as possible.
We chose to stack our LG washer and Beko heat pump dryer to save space and keep the look clean. After some consideration, we decided not to install a Steigen or any automated drying system. Our main reason? We wanted to cut down on labour work and fully rely on the dryer instead. It’s fuss-free, fast, and means no more hanging of clothes. It’s been a game-changer for us, especially on busy days.
While we chose to skip the automated Steigen system and rely mostly on our dryer, we still wanted a simple solution for hand-washed items or delicate fabrics that don’t go well in the dryer. That’s where our gunmetal ceiling-mounted drying rack comes in.
It’s slim, minimal, and doesn’t protrude too much, making it a subtle but super functional addition. Installed right above our sliding windows, it allows us to air-dry those clothes. The gunmetal tone also blends in nicely with our home’s overall aesthetic without drawing too much attention.
Sometimes it’s the small, intentional touches that really make a space work for your lifestyle.
Right beside the washer-dryer stack, our ID helped us design a tall utility cabinet that blends right in with the rest of our kitchen carpentry. This cabinet does double duty: it hides unsightly pipings not only from view when guests come over, but even from us when we open the doors. Our ID cleverly included a removable plywood panel that conceals the plumbing while still allowing easy access when needed.
• We added a power point so the cordless vacuum can stay plugged in and charged at all times.
• A laundry basket sits neatly below for dirty towels and cloths.
There are mounted clips for brooms and mops to keep them off the floor.
The upper shelf holds folded reusable towels, some cleaning supplies, and even a little stash of pet food.
Everything has its place and it’s all easy to reach, easy to maintain, and just nice to look at. A little planning goes a long way in turning even a utility cabinet into something that sparks joy.
