This week, the tofus are going to share about the rooms that always surprise visitors and guests: their bathrooms!
P.S. can you find the common bathroom hidden behind this feature wall?
Mystery revealed!
The tofus' resale flat had their toilets 'rerouted' by the previous owners, who changed the master bedroom toilet into a common toilet and vice versa.
The tofus didn't want the toilet door to be so obvious from the entrance, so they had it cleverly hidden behind a feature wall!
Another surprise that guests get is that in contrast to the bright and soft colours of the rest of the house, the bathrooms are all black, white, and grey!
This was borne mostly out of practical reasons. The tofus worried that light wood colours would be difficult to maintain in this wet area, especially if there's a chance of mould.
They were also convinced by their IDs that this was still in line with the Scandinavian theme but was a cool surprise - so they went ahead with this!
A closer look at their bathroom fittings with the mirror installed!
They actually bought the same fittings across both bathrooms, with the main difference being the different-coloured sinks and taps.
They kept the striking black tap in the common bathroom as it was a strong contrast that looked more aesthetically-pleasing - important when hosting guests!
The tofus have kept the number of items in this bathroom minimal to avoid looking cluttered.
Most of the cleaning supplies are hidden away in this cabinet so that it was easier to access for regular cleaning.
While the tofus have decided to get most of their 'crucial' bathroom fittings locally after the advice of other homeowners, they decided there was no harm in trying cheaper, 'non-crucial' fittings from Taobao.
This includes the paper roll holder that doubles up as a small shelf to put their diffusers (and sometimes their phones).
They initially considered building a niche in the shower area for their shower essentials, but eventually dropped the idea due to the cost.
Their budget alternative was to purchase these ledges from Taobao that are surprisingly very sturdy and still matched both their bathroom and Scandi themes!
They have 2 shower ledges per bathroom but ironically they only use the common bathroom to shower (for easier cleaning), hence everything typically goes here.
The shower mixer and shower head have been intentionally picked as black to fit the overall bathrooms' themes.
However, the tofus are not fans of these as they're rather noisy and often keep leaking water for no reason.
And this is the tofus' master bedroom toilet!
You can instantly see that the sink area here looks very different - more muted with lighter colours, replacing the black tap with a gunmetal one instead.
While it is not obvious from the previous photo, what's cool about this bathroom is that there is a clear contrast between the shower area and the rest of the bathroom, separated only by a half-height shower screen.
If you notice, the sink has been kept relatively simple as just a regular-shaped, evenly-textured bowl.
This is intentionally done to keep cleaning simple - they were worried that other fancier sinks would be a cleaning nightmare!
And of course, not forgetting the useful diatomite mat that is stationed outside each toilet.
The tofus found that this is really very effective in drying feet quick. The only downside is that it gets dirty real quick too!
