When you enter our living space from the foyer, you will be greeted by our cosy and inviting dining area - a well-used space where we spend time with our loved ones over conversations and food 💌
We knew from the beginning that we wanted a dining table that can accommodate just the two of us on most days, yet can be extended for gatherings with our families and friends. Hence, we bought this IKEA foldable/extendable table 5 years ago and it has served us well through the years.
(Our IKEA dining table and chairs are from past collections and are no longer in stock.)
Our dining space started bare with a dining table, four dining chairs and two floating shelves. Bit by bit, we styled the area with decor pieces and functional items according to our lifestyle.
Disclaimer: The dining table don’t always look this neat on most days 🥲
We love open shelves in our home as they have so much styling possibilities. The decor styling on these floating shelves changes with the seasons! 😌 It is 👵🏻 G’s hobby to change things up once in a while and 👴🏻 J may not even notice what has changed hehe
This season’s arrangement is made of up bare willow branches and dancing latifolium grass.
Come by a few months later and you will enjoy a new vase arrangement! 🌾
We love hanging things in our small home.. if you don’t already noticed 🫢 It’s functional in saving space/creating storage and aesthetic in adding to the decor of the area.
⭐️ DIY tip: Add a wooden pole (we got ours from Daiso) to the brackets of the floating shelf and you can start hanging things with S-hooks!
This is how our dining space look like with the table extended to sit 4 persons comfortably.
When we have larger gatherings, we shift our dining table to the middle of our living room.
We chose this IKEA dining table because of its natural wood grain and curved sides.
While we love how the fabric seat of these dining chairs adds to the softness and coziness of the dining area, we have a little regret purchasing these chairs as cushioned seats are not easy to upkeep. We have to frequently spray Febreeze and vacuum it to keep it clean. Over the years, it has also gotten some stains that cannot be removed. Something to consider if you like cushioned chairs!
In a small home, we are always thinking of how we can make use of our space efficiently or how we can use our current furniture in another way.
With Little ☁️’s addition, we chose an Ingenuity chair that can be attached to our existing dining chair. It’s space-saving and easily removable.
A little try to fulfil 👵🏻 G’s dreams of a cottage dining area where I can sip my floral tea and enjoy home bakes for afternoon tea, I placed this vintage pressed floral frame that was found while treasure-hunting on Carousell in this part of our home.
👵🏻 G’s late grandmother’s fan sits in our dining space. It was intentionally placed here because she was the person who gathers our family with her home cooked meals. Having this here makes her presence close even though she is no longer around 🤍
Ending off with a view of our dining nook from the kitchen 🍃
We hope you enjoyed coming by our small and cosy dining area (and the little tips we shared)! ✨
