Our common toilet leans into a cooler tone palette, with strong stone-inspired textures and just a subtle touch of wood for warmth. We wanted the space to feel grounded yet clean, like a modern spa retreat. To add visual interest, we played with three different types of tiles:
• A bold black stone tile for the flooring, with terrazzo-like speckles,
• Vertical subway tiles in a soft grey for the shower area and left side of the wall,
• Elegant grey marble-look tiles on the right side of the wall for contrast and sophistication.
The layout is compact, but details like the curved drop-down ceiling help soften the overall look and add depth. A black-framed shower screen defines the wet zone without making the space feel closed off. Paired with warm cove lighting and gun metal fittings, everything comes together to create a serene and calming environment.
A closer look at the tile pairing! Tile selection was one of the key decisions we obsessed over. On the left, a natural stone-effect tile adds texture, while the vertical subway ridged tiles on the right add contrast. We love how they come together, it brings enough interest without overwhelming the space.
We initially planned to repurpose our cutout sintered stone as the ledge, but our ID advised against it. It wouldn’t be able to hold much weight, especially when pressing down on bottles like shampoo or body wash. Over time, it might even loosen or fall off. So, we pivoted and opted to use our grey tiles instead, built with a sturdy support structure to ensure stability. The result is a ledge that’s both practical and seamless.
Every little detail matters, from the towel ring to the reed diffuser. We picked a gun metal towel ring that matches the fittings and chose a muted hand towel to stay within the palette.
On the opposite wall, we installed three matte black hooks. It’s perfect for us to hang our clothes or for us to hang towels. We intentionally chose a minimalist and simple design, so the focus remains on the beautiful tilework behind it. They’re sturdy, low-profile, and easy to reach!
One of our favorite elements: this ribbed circular wall sconce. Its soft glow next to the rounded mirror sets just the right tone, especially at night — warm, calm, and a little bit dreamy. Paired with the cove lighting above, the entire space feels more elevated than you’d expect from a compact toilet. It’s all about setting the right vibes, and lighting really made the difference here.
We opted for a ready-made vanity that’s fully waterproof, ensuring it can withstand the humidity and wet bathroom environment without the risk of the carpentry rotting over time. It is topped with a sintered stone countertop and a circular vessel sink that sits elegantly on top. The vanity doors come with recessed handles by default, but we added wooden knobs to introduce a subtle touch of warmth and texture. It’s a small detail, but we absolutely love this idea. It softens the look and ties in beautifully with the rest of our earthy tones.
And that’s a wrap for our common toilet tour! While it may be a smaller space, we poured just as much thought and intention into every detail, from the tile combinations to the fittings, lighting, and that little wooden touch on the vanity. It’s a space we use daily, so making it both functional and calming was key.
Sometimes, it’s these compact corners that end up feeling the most complete. Can’t wait to show you how our master toilet turned out! With the same earthy vibe, but with a slightly different twist. Stay tuned!
