Hi! We’re Jem and Jes aka Kallang.Gunis on IG.
Our house is a 4 room BTO that we waited 5 (painfully) long years for! The day we received our keys was one of the happiest and most exciting days of our lives.
Having lived in central locations all his life, Jem‘s prioritised choosing a flat located centrally, and preferably near an MRT station. Jes lived in the far, far east growing up, so anywhere that required less than an hour to get to Orchard via public transport was a bonus for her 😂
We are thankful to have gotten a BTO located on the city fringe, and a mere 3 minutes walk from the MRT station.
When planning for our house, we avoided hacking any walls as we wanted to keep everything intact. We also minimised built-ins and opted for loose furniture to give ourselves the flexibility of shifting things around and revamping our space easily, if we ever wish to do so in the future.
In terms of interior design, Jem likes a dark, industrial theme while Jes prefers a scandi look. Both of us love wood so we attempted to marry all elements together to achieve a scandi-industrial aesthetic. We endeavoured to achieve a timeless design that we hope won’t go out of style in the foreseeable future.
To achieve the industrial effect, we incorporated a fair amount of grey in our space, such as painting our walls grey, and having a lime plaster feature wall in our living room to achieve a cement effect. Our floors are grey as well.
Fun fact - we have 2 feature walls at home! This is the other feature wall - a brick wall for a raw, unpolished look.
Overall, our house is kept simple, and we prioritise the use of good quality furniture to enhance the look of our home. We are excited to share more about our home with you in the coming weeks!
