To host guests comfortably, we always ensure that all unnecessary items are kept away. At a glance, the house will look clean and spacious without any clutter. We also set the mood by closing the curtains, to allow soft lighting to hit into our home and turning on our yellow lights to give off a more cosy feeling.

That means to keep all our unsightly items, such as loose papers, wires, stationary in drawers. That way, when guests arrive they do not need to fiddle with items lying around.

The first place most guests ask for is the toilet and they often do not know which is the right switch to use. As such, a simple hack would be to stick on a post it note to indicate to anyone who wants to turn on the toilet lights.

We also ensure our guests are well fed! We keep our refrigerator stocked up during festive periods with quick oven baked items and/or airfry items such as garlic bread, pizza and frozen spicy drumlets! When ordering pizza delivery, I also prefer to turn on our oven at 80 degree celsius, to keep the pizza warm and crispy before all my guests arrive.

Photo of dining table with extra chairs Given the small dining space for our 4 room HDB, our dining can only seat upto 4-5 people. However, with the addition of these extra stools (which are normally kept away in the storeroom), we can easily add 4 more people around the dining table. That allows us to host a group of 8-9 people easily!

Finally, with a large group of guests, it also means lots of trash. Our dustbin, though large enough for day-to-day living, isn’t for such gatherings. As such, we use an extra stool and turn it upside down, to hold a large garbage bag. This creates an easy access large rubbish bin for everyone to use and is super easy to tie up and throw away thereafter!
