Welcome to our humble bedroom.
This is going to be quite a short post because there's really nothing much to share for our bedroom. Our focus was maximising the space we were given and keep things simple. We decided on a platform bed to increase our storage space. Scroll down to see our floor plan and how we altered it to maximise our space.
Our renovation process was met with several sleepless nights trying to restructure this room in a way that maximises the space.
As you can see from the floor plan, our master bedroom door is placed in a way that when you enter the room, you have to sort of make a U-turn if you want to go to the master bathroom. It also meant that when you enter the bedroom, you are immediately facing the bed.
We found this layout quite awkward as that would prevent us from being able to install any bedside tables or platform as the space was extremely limited. Further more, HDB's recommended location for the wardrobe was along the wall (highlighted in blue). This meant that we could only fit maximum wardrobe size of 3 doors, which we felt was a bit little.
So what we decided to do was to move our door frame beside our master bathroom (indicated in yellow). And shift our wall outward slightly (indicated in blue). This gave us so much more practical space and we managed to have a bedside table as well as install a 5 door wardrobe.
This is the view when you enter our master bedroom. You are greeted by the vanity table. When you turn right, you'll see our master bathroom, and on the left you'll see our platform bed.
And that's the end of our bedroom tour. We told you it was going to be short.
I guess if there was one lesson we'd like everyone reading this post to take away, is that you don't always have to follow the cookie cutter floorplan that HDB provides. Play around with the space and seek as many opinions from contractors, interior designers and other home owners to design something that is practical for your home.
See you guys in the next post:)
