  • Welcome to our laundry area – a small but mighty corner of our home where functionality takes centre stage. Our laundry area is tucked away at the service yard, a common feature in many Singaporean homes. However, we decided not to have a door to demarcate the service yard and kitchen. Instead, we only retained the half wall and replaced the previous classroom-style window with a fixed glass panel. This allows light and air to flow between the two areas, making the two spaces feel brighter and connected. Luckily, no one can peek into our service yard, so we can keep our window clear and avoid installing a blind. This really helps brighten our kitchen space!
  • We kept our laundry area setup simple and didn’t box up the pipes, as they would take up too much space, and we really want ample natural light to flow in. Instead, we store all our laundry items neatly on IKEA trolleys, which help us use the space in front of the pipes efficiently. Here are some tips for choosing a washing machine: We opted for a front-load model because they are more energy-efficient, use less water, and offer better cleaning performance. We also chose a 13kg capacity, knowing it would be a huge help when washing our king-sized bedsheets and duvet.
  • Sadly, we don’t get much sun in our service yard for drying laundry. We’re not fans of dryers, so we opted for an automated laundry system instead. On the other side of our service yard is where we’ve placed our furbaby’s pee tray—that’s why we didn’t include it in our photos! We’re still considering whether to move it into our common toilet’s shower area for easier cleaning. However, we’re concerned that our guests may not like that idea. For fellow homeowners with a furbaby, do let us know where you place your furbaby’s toilet!
