Hello Homies! We love our kitchen as it has one of the best views in our home, and also where the bulk of our renovation cost went into as we did a fair bit of hacking works and built lots of functional storage in here.
Read on to see how we turned our once tiny kitchen into a wide and open kitchen space!
When we first got keys to our home, we were shocked by how small and squarish our kitchen looked like. Behind our kitchen was a beautiful unblocked view of our neighborhood park & lots of greens beyond so we really wanted to open up the space.
We made grand plans to remove the walls & doors of the original service yard, and to extend our bottom cabinets into our living space. This created double the amount of storage & usable space we have for our wet & dry pantry!
Our once square kitchen that turned into a long galley! We hacked away the walls & doors of our service yard including the beam on top, with PE's endorsement ($$$). We also used the same vinyl overlay as our living space to make our kitchen look integrated with our living space.
The front of our bottom cabinet extends into our dining room and it houses our water dispenser, coffee maker and lots of storage space below. Do plan with your ID in advance as a water pipe extension needs to run through your carpentry if you are having a dry pantry like ours!
Every inch of carpentry cost quite a bit, and curved carpentry cost even more! Many people would think that our connecting curve is a dead space, but surprise surprise, we have a fully functional space here!
We opted for lots of huge drawers in our bottom cabinet as we collected quite abit of cookware and ceramic ware even before we moved in! Having drawers means that you can access items easily, even those right at the back.
This is the worktop that we use for meal preps. What was once an awkward recessed wall is beautifully framed up with curves (our ID's idea!) and a shelf to spruce up our kitchen.
Adding a little color and life into our kitchen space is a cute plant we got from Soilboy! We also love our good looking Bruno baking dishes very much.
The side of our kitchen where all the magic happens!
We chose these pretty looking scallop looking tiles for our backsplash! We opted for these 30 x 60cm tiles instead of mosaic tiles to minimize on grout lines.
We also opted for induction hob because we wanted our countertop to be sleek and minimal. Having Kompacpus also means that we can have our Sink covered when we want to.
With proper layout planning with our ID, we managed to transform a tiny squarish kitchen into a wider and long galley kitchen with lots of storage which we love!
We hope you have enjoyed our kitchen post and we look forward to share more about our kitchen organisation in the next few posts!
