  • Hello!! We are here to share about our house-hunting journey! After trying >5 times for BTOs/SBFs, our timeline in search of a house grew shorter and we started leaning more towards hunting for a resale flat instead. Our ideal timeline was to get married and be able to shift in soon after, or almost immediately. And so our resale house hunting journey began!

We viewed different resale units over multiple weekends. Due to the nature of our work, weekday viewings were generally difficult. And we tried to squeeze in numerous viewings in each weekend to maximise our time and to be able to view our options as much as we could. The 3 key factors that we decided on for a unit that we wanted were: 1) Walking distance to the MRT 2) Have food options near us (both supermarkets and coffee shops/food courts) 3) Within our budget Our budget was something that decreased the more we went along this house hunting journey. We did not want to burden ourselves with the financing of the house that was beyond what we could afford. Ideally, it was to find a house with $0 cash-over-valuation (COV) + be of a price that we could pay off monthly installments via our CPF without having to fork out any cash.

The more we viewed, the more factors we realised we wanted to consider more strongly than we had expected. Age of the house and how many years left on the lease was something that slowly grew to be of more importance to us. Our cap was to not find a unit that was more than 25 years old.

When we saw this unit, it was almost love at first sight. It is a 4 room resale flat, 93sqm. The main thing that blew us away was how literally how windy it was! Given that the wind does change through the year, it was important that at least when we were there it was windy. And we would have to deal with whatever weather through the year.

Another thing that was of minor consideration for us was the fact that it was 100% sheltered from the MRT. Although it is a pretty long walk to weave through the various blocks, it does prove as a very helpful point to have a fully sheltered walk in case of extreme heavy downpours. (And I personally have a habit of not bringing my umbrella oops)

The great thing about this particular unit is that it is on a relatively high floor. We are about mid floor of this block. And we also noticed that, as compared to the floor directly above and below us, our floor has really clean neighbours. No plants or major clutter outside their homes. Honestly, we did have our reservations about a corridor unit. We were worried that we would always have people walk by and intrude our privacy. But that doesn't seem to be the case with us living here for 9 months. There are only 2 more units after ours, and because we have a xiaomi doorbell, it alerts us whenever there is someone at the door or when someone walks past. Most of the notifications received are from our deliveries hehe. Our neighbours are also on a very nice balance for us - friendly but not overly friendly. And we are probably the noisest unit on the entire floor! We host pretty often and we've not seen any other units, except one other unit, host any guests. Our neighbours have been very accommodating to our sounds of laughters and conversations whenever we host!

Standing along the balcony on this floor when we first viewed it was amazing! The wind. The view. And we saw a lot of greenery.

And this was the view on the other side of the corridor. We hope we've managed to ignite some thought processes here if you are also into your house hunting journey! We wish you the very best in finding the perfect home for your family. Till next time!
