  • Hello and welcome to our kitchen - this is where Duck hangs out and carries out dangerous cooking experiments :) Our kitchen cabinets are pretty empty because we're actively trying not to be hoarders after seeing our parents' cabinets filled with lots of empty containers and mugs and free gifts that nobody has used for the last 20 years.... (y'all know what I mean right!) But anyway, here are some of our favourite storage solutions (mostly from Taobao) for what little kitchen items we have!
  • We built this little pull out tray for our oven because we didn't want a built in oven, but also wanted to conserve countertop space. Pro tip: If you want this pull out tray thingy as well but have no idea what dimensions you should get - Duck literally went to her nearest appliance store and measured 5 different ovens to get an idea of the sizing. That's why there's a gap above our current oven - this oven is considered 'short' so we're future proofing for when our oven breaks down and we need to get another one LOL. But... the main point here is that we have this drawer below the oven where we keep all our 'oven' related items - baking trays, baking paper, etc. After using it for a while, we realized the drawer is a bit too deep for baking paper/aluminium foil - we would keep losing sight of the smaller rolls amidst all the other stuff we had so we got this drawer insert from Taobao. It fits exactly THREE items - cling wrap, baking paper and aluminium foil - perfectly so we no longer have to go digging around in our drawer every time we need these items.

And next we have the #1 kitchen must have if you don't have a sauce rack - the LAZY SUSAN for sauces! This has been an amazing life saver because our sauces shelf is located in one of our top cabinets and it's literally impossible for short people (like Duck) to reach the items at the back without tiptoeing or climbing onto the countertop (we do not encourage this behaviour). The lazy susan also contains any potential spills and drips (looking at you, my oil bottles!) so we don't dirty our cabinets. But we are kiasu singaporeans, so we also added a cabinet liner below just for good measure :)
  • Next up is our ‘dry goods' section - we have this really peculiar cabinet that is VERY shallow because of a random beam behind it. Thankfully, we managed to find this Taobao rice container that fits exactly into this tiny space! It's airtight and big enough for 5kg of rice (which takes us forever to finish haha). It also comes with this compartment at the top where you can (supposedly) put in dried chilli/garlic to prevent weevils - seems to be working for us! And on the bottom shelf, we have this equally awkward space where we keep our instant noodles! After hunting around on Taobao again, we found this extendable box that again, fits perfectly into the space :) The great thing about this extendable box is that... it extends DUH - but really, it's great because we can expand or shrink it depending on how much instant noodles we have in stock, and make space for other items! It's much more space efficient than the usual storage boxes where your configuration is pretty much 'fixed' once you buy the box. The mechanism isn't the smoothest, but for this price, we aren't complaining :)
  • Our bomb shelter door is in our kitchen... so we'd like to count the bomb shelter door storage as part of our kitchen storage too :) Our favourite thing about the bomb shelter door is that it's metal! We've been sticking all kinds of magnetic things on it :) So on this door, we have... a magnetic magazine holder! This is supposed to hold documents/magazines but Duck realised that it also works amazing for holding PAPER BAGS. It's not the neatest solution :') but it's been keeping our paper bag stash in one place instead of having them all clumped together in a box or something. Above the paper bag stash we also have this other magnetic rack that was originally meant for like pens and stationery (according to the Taobao store). We've been using it instead for those random items you will suddenly need in life, but never know where to find e.g. permanent markers, screwdrivers, measuring tape, blue tack... you know what I mean :)
  • Ending off our post with a little bonus! This is actually the Sunnersta rack from IKEA (not Taobao!) but we realised after getting it that hanging up our kitchen utensils is a much better way of storing them! We used to put them in the container/jar they came in, but sometimes water would drip and accumulate at the bottom if we forgot to wipe them 100% dry. And as you can expect, that got pretty gross pretty fast LOL. We also like that the rack comes with lots of components - we have the kitchen towel holder and the little tray as well (Duck puts her onions and garlic there so they can stay dry while waiting to be chopped and cooked hehe) That's all for this kitchen storage post! Hope it was useful for you:)
