Welcome to our dining room. Our 2.2m dining table cum our dry pantry island allows 8 pax seating and can go up to 12 pax by adding in more chairs (2 more at the cabinet area & 2 more at the side of the table).
We wanted a huge dining space without having to open and close the table as we host our family on a monthly basis (we have 10 pax) and we thought that this space would also allow us to have comfortable gatherings whenever we host friends.
On one side of the table, we built a 2-layer cabinet space to store our plates, bowls, saucers, coasters, etc for easier access.
Steamboats during gatherings and Chinese New Year are a must. Thus, we incorporated 2 sets of power sockets (one in the middle and one at the end of the table) as we have a long table. Planting the sockets on the inner side of the table also allows the not-so-pleasant-looking sockets to be out of sight.
For our past gatherings, we used 2 steamboat pots so that no one had to stretch to get their food. Happy to say that the sockets on each side did not hinder our seating arrangements at all. Another plus point is that we / the guests could charge our mobile phones while enjoying the food.
We wanted a flush look on the outer side of the table so that it looked seamless when we enter into the living space from the foyer. We decided to add fluted panels which we sourced from Taobao and were delighted that the color of the fluted panels matches our chosen laminates perfectly.
Our sintered stone countertop from Lian Hin adds character and has been very durable (3 months and counting).
Above our dining table are three hanging lights that we got from Bali during our pre-wedding shoots. When we walked past the shop, we both agreed that this is the one. 😍
A snack cupboard is a pretty cool thing to have, but now that we have it, it is so dangerous (for our weight LOL). When the cabinet was first installed, we thought it was huge, but it got filled up really quickly. In here, we put all our snacks, cereals, dried goods, disposable utensils, etc.
Next to the snack cabinet, we catered space for our built-in oven and microwave. We didn't chuck these appliances in the wet kitchen as the island space was perfect for us to bake and bring food out immediately to serve.
We wanted a sink in the dry kitchen so that we can
1) wash simple items like cups
2) wash our hands before we start our meal
3) wash our hands in between meals if they get dirty
4) wash table cloth
5) install our water dispenser
The said water dispenser is a life changer. The husband no longer has to boil water for his morning coffee. And we get instant cold water when the weather turns crazy hot.
The aesthetic design of Wells The One makes it very hard for us to choose other brands of water dispensers. We love how sleek it looks on the countertop.
We also placed two tumblers beside the water dispenser so as to remind ourselves to drink more water.
Coffee grinder and coffee filters are the husband must use every day to make his morning coffee. The wife also placed a mini vacuum beside it as a reminder to clean the countertop when coffee powder crumbs are seen. 😛
We had an air fryer in our parent's place and we had to have it in our own home. Making a meal using an air fryer is really super convenient especially when we are both working.
And not forgetting our Line 8 power track looks amazing and it also helps us to organize our wires neatly.
Hope this post gives you inspiration to build your own dining space to cater to you and the people in your life. Stay tuned for more 😊
