  • Welcome to this week’s sharing on kitchen organisation! As a first time homeowner, I have sought help on kitchen organisation far too many times. To be honest, this is the area I find it toughest to organise 😭 I’ll try to share some tips along the way if I could, otherwise, please share with me instead!! Our kitchen is mainly divided into 3 parts: Left: Our preparation, groceries dump and cooking area. Right: Fridge and dry pantry section. Middle/inside: Sink area combined seamlessly with our laundry area. Let’s go!

Starting with the simplest area I would say is our smallest area. Our fridge which houses a lot of food and drinks (party ready always!) and two coffee machines (a Nespresso machine and Airbot coffee machine). My standard is Nespresso because it’s simple and convenient. Above it you’ll find two shelves which are right now just… shelves. Haven’t got time to display anything meaningful lol. Below you’ll find our snacks bar!

A snacks bar is never big enough. And because of our big fridge, we sacrificed a little on this dry area. We installed a drawer at the top cabinet for easy access to snacks at the back, and below are the extra snacks that we stock up. We only access snacks from the top section, and refill from the bottom, hence if the bottom section ever looks sparse, we know it’s time to stock up!

A happy area for my 6 year old, especially.

On the opposite is our preparation area. We did a long drawer size (around 75cm) which my ID and the Mr ever doubted because 75cm is pretty huge 😂 but I’ve seen bigger la, and I think it fits the aesthetics. So why not? We store our daily bowls and plates at the bottom drawer!

The top drawer is short to store utensils. We are ashamed to say we have yet to organise with a cutlery tray of choice, so still using the default (doesn’t fit well sized) one till we get to this. 😂😂😂 The spare room in this drawer contains some scissors, sauce trays, and wires which we always access to. We recycle bags/cartons that fit and use them as organiser instead of buying. ✌🏻

In the second drawer you’ll find drinks and cups! We also did not get any special storage or containers to organise our drinks. We just reuse the original packaging and change them out when we change our drinks choices, making it easy to identify the drinks availability. From the colours and packaging we can almost always tell what is running out at one glance. Save the earth! 🌍 P.s. The fancy colours don’t affect us because they’re all hidden when the drawers are closed, keeping the style minimal and clean in this area.
  • We will skip the cabinet to the right of the cutlery drawer for a while and revisit after this. To the far right of our dry/cooking area is our induction cooking hob! Below it are swing door cabinets for storage of pots and pans. We tried our best to make this area easier to access and prioritised convenience and usage frequency, thus we placed milk pots and lids at the top, and bigger pots and pans at the bottom. We also installed a pull out drawer for the portable induction cooker and our Bruno hotplate. Both are our party best friends! FYI, the pull out drawer width is 35cm, depth 43cm. *PLEASE REMEMBER* to leave a small 2cm gap if you’re installing it beside the hinge, otherwise your pull out drawer can’t be pulled out.

Ok back to the space we skipped. Between the drinks, cutlery, and the cabinet below the hob, there's about 60cm of available space left. We added two swing doors and decided to use this area to store dry cooking ingredients like rice, flour, pasta, and soup packs for easy access during meal preparation. The top cabinet contains a large variety of pasta, instant noodles, soup packets, and pasta sauces. As always, we've repurposed carton boxes or decorative boxes to organize and separate the different items.

For the bottom cabinet we put our rice container onto a pull out drawer (30cm) for easy access to rice! Beside it are some cooler bags. It’s a bit random but it’s because during some meal preparations, we realised we have the tendency to pack our own meal to bring to work too. For the extra space beside this is for our spare bowls and plates!
  • Coming to the very last area in the kitchen that we organise… is the below the sink area! It’s a really moist area that we don’t use very often, so we might as well store cleaning supplies so that we open it daily to ventilate! Our dishwashing soap refills, daily disinfectant refills are all here in 5L bottles. We also recently bought a small pull out drawer to store daily disinfectants, degreasers, stain removers etc at the top, and towels at the bottom! It’s only 21cm but makes this area much neater.
  • To the right we have a small cabinet that contains our laundry items at the top, and hand soap refills, baking soda and scrubs below. It only makes sense this way because our washer is on the right of this cabinet.

Items can be easily accessed from the front. The items are the back are generally refills! By the end of this post you can tell that I am quite the hoarder… 😂😂😂 But putting it nicely… Can we say that I like to feel ready and I like that I have everything available at home? ❤️

Our biggest tip for an open concept kitchen organisation is to keep the insides organised, and create a clean countertop look! Thanks for reading my simple post on kitchen organisation. We are still always learning and very open to new and better ways to organise! Please share with us if you see anything lacking in our kitchen 🙏🏻
