S-fold curtains are perhaps the number 1 best investment I could have made for my home - aesthetic wise. It truly elevated my home’s style and I love it so much! The uniform folds create a sleek, polished look, while the floor-to-ceiling length makes my ceilings appear taller and the room feel more spacious. During the day, the curtains allow soft, natural light to fill the space, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere.
The only potential downside of this is that as compared to the usual curtains, you will need to allocate 50% more space for your curtains (due to the folds) which may eat into our already limited HDB room space.
We chose the Sonos Beam and Sonos Subwoofer for our home because it goes beyond a power sound system. It also checks our boxes when it comes to aesthetics and design. For my husband who is super sensitive to sounds and sound effects, the Sonos Beam offers immersive, crisp sound for movies, music, and gaming, creating a home theater experience without the complexity of traditional systems. Its compact size doesn’t compromise on sound quality, making it perfect for smaller or open-plan spaces like our home. We find that the Sonos beam alone doesn’t quite meet my husband’s keen sense of hearing. So, he paired it with the Sonos Subwoofer to add a deeper, more powerful bass.
See that there are also no visible wires from our TV or the sound system! That was also another aspect my husband insisted upon. All the wires are well hidden behind the partition wall or the electrical cable flap we designed into our TV console.
Next, another appliance that we find super important for apartment leaving is the Steigen laundry rack system. We bought the Steigen Sonic in white, which is the medium size rack (they have a mini and also the pro eclipse, at the time we bought it, not too sura about now). We find that this size is perfect for small spaces like our HDB service yard, but provides us with sufficient drying space (we added an additional rod of clips to hand more items of clothing).
But, the best part is that it helps to speed up drying, so even on rainy days, our clothes can dry fast and well. I do not need to worry about laundry not drying in time or smelling mouldy, especially during the monsoon months.
I also chose to put a photo of how I keep my hangers, because I think this is a really great idea (which i learnt from other home owners). This drawer is just below the steigen laundry rack, allowing for quick and easy access to the hangers when drying my clothing.
The Dreame L10s Ultra robot vacuum and mop has been such a lifesaver for me, especially with my dog shedding constantly. It really helps cut down on the daily floor maintenance, as it vacuums and mops in one go, picking up fur and dirt without me having to do it manually. However, I know that there are now newer models that can self-drain dirty mop water and refill with clean water, which will be a great upgrade in future! That said, we still need to do a bit of manual mopping and use disinfecting detergent every 1-2 weeks since the robot just handles surface cleaning. But overall, it’s been a huge help!
I’ve realized how important ceiling fans are here in Singapore’s hot and humid climate, even though they might not look as sleek as a tower fan. They help circulate air more efficiently throughout the entire room, keeping things cooler without relying on AC all the time. Honestly, my only regret is not installing them in the living room – it would’ve made a huge difference in comfort, especially during those really warm days. Definitely a must-have for better airflow and for my next home, ceiling fans will be everywhere.
