We wanted a service yard that doesn’t feel too cramped, yet still maximize the usability of the space

Chose to keep the original BTO service yard door and windows, just changed the louvre windows to fixed glass panels since we don’t see ourselves opening the windows. We prefer having the option to close up the service yard when we are cooking so that clothes that are drying will not have any smell. Also added narrower window grilles to make it cat-proof for our cat James.
  • Changed out the standard laundry system (no mari kita for us 🤭) for the Steigen laundry system. That has been such a great choice! Not only does it allow your clothes to dry more quickly, you can always hang clothes and bedsheets with ease.

We got our ID to extend the kitchen carpentry into the service for more storage, but opted for a simple design (no shaker) with limewash effect laminate so it’s easier to clean and still doesn’t look flat. It has now become the designated plants corner since our service yard is the main corner that gets the direct morning sun.
  • Extra laundry supplies and other items are kept in the cabinet. We prefer keeping items kept in an enclosed space than exposed, to prevent dust from accumulating.
  • The other side has our washing machine and we put most used laundry supplies on top for easy access as we do the laundry 3-4 times a week. Chose not do any carpentry on this side as we needed space to put something on the corner.
  • The space in the corner is for this small sink that’s so useful! We use it to wash dirtier items like socks, shoes, wiping cloths etc. This is so we don’t have to use the common bathroom to wash items and we also don’t have to sacrifice counter space to include a proper sink in the service yard that’s already quite small. This has got to be one of the fave features in our home.

Hi! Since your sink is beside your washing machine, does it feel to squeezy to wash your hands / items in the sink? Have a similar layout and wondering if this would be an issue 😅
