Welcome to our master bedroom - aka the cosy sanctuary we have created to wind down for the night when the kids are asleep. It is also functions as a study room & storage space! This was one of the rooms where we did the most changes - let's take you through the changes we did in this post.

One of the things about the original layout we wanted to change were the two long bay windows on each side of the windows; this created a lot of wasted floor space. We decided to build our platform bed to match the height of the bay windows, which then allowed us to push the bed closer to the windows. Definitely not the usual bed orientation layout, but it really helped us maximise the space! By using a wood laminate, it also gave a cosy Japanese tatami vibe.

This additional floor space allowed us to carve out a cosy study room corner, with a full height cabinet to keep the files out of sight for a decluttered room. The wall where the cabinet is used to be the entrance to the master bedroom toilet! This was another major change we did to the layout where the toilet door now leads to our (kinda) walk-in wardrobe.

The platform bed is also great to stow away bulky items which we hardly use, like luggages and winter wear! The pull out drawers remain accessible for items we use on a daily basis.

When we wind down at night, we like to switch on our pendant light which helps us to relax before bedtime. Using warm lighting in the bedroom definitely helps to create a cosy room!

Platform beds has its pros and cons. Our platform bed is built higher than most to match the bay window's height, but even with the usual height some people find it hard to get in and out of bed. We are glad with our layout though, as it helped maximise our room's layout to create a cosy and more functional space. If you have a platform bed in your room, are you in the yay or nay camp?
