One of the most extensive renovations we made was shifting the sink out of the master toilet to create a larger vanity area in our master bedroom. A year later, we’re still really happy with this decision! However, if we had to do it again, there are definitely a few things we would approach differently. Sharing some of our reno regrets related to our vanity area below.
Reno Regret #1: Countertop Organization
We love having a spacious countertop for our grooming needs, but leaving it without storage solutions has led to visual clutter. If we could do it over, we’d definitely plan for wall-hung shelves or other organizational options to keep the surface neat and tidy.
Reno Regret #2: White Marble Quartz Countertop
We chose the same white marble quartz for our vanity countertop as we did in the kitchen. Unfortunately, this has resulted in the same issue—stains from dirt or rust on the underside of containers are tough to remove due to the material's porous nature. If we could do over, we would definitely have opted for a more maintenance-friendly material.
Reno Regret #3: Undermount Sink
We loved that the undermount sink provided more countertop space. However, we now think a flush mount sink would have been a better choice. It would have spared us from dealing with stubborn mold and dirt getting stuck in the crevices between the sink and countertop, which can be a real pain to clean.
Reno Regret #4: Thicker Countertop Profile
We also wish we had chosen a thicker countertop profile for a more elevated look. While we opted for a thinner profile to save on costs, it’s something we use and see every day, and now we wish we had prioritized the aesthetic instead.
