There is no better place than the spacious balcony to entertain, have meals, relax or work with a view. Moving the dining space to the balcony was the intention from day one of buying the apartment as this creates more space for the living room.
To make the indoor space appear larger, the floor level of the balcony was topped up to match the living room and the same glazed porcelain floor tiles were used. With the press of a button to activate the motorized blinds, the balcony becomes an indoor space.
Not all beautiful things are necessarily expensive. Here, the very affordable LISABO table (~$200) from IKEA goes well with a pair of Ligne Roset CM 131 chairs (~$1800) by Pierre Paulin and a pair of BuzziMilk stools from BuzziSpace.
Set on the contrasting black LISABO table are tableware sourced overseas and locally that add colour and interest to the dining ensemble.
The plates are from Komatsuya on Kappabashi Street in Tokyo, and the coasters from Singapore’s Cathedral of the Good Shepherd. White lilies from CS Fresh sit in an extra large, vintage, made in England graduated cylinder from the defunct Singapore Institute of Science.
Against the wall stand a pair of simple office cabinets, alongside a vintage statue of a seated Chairman Mao looking into the distance.
The microwave, water dispenser and Nespresso machine are placed here for convenience and to free up precious kitchen space. As there is still more space along the wall, more cabinets can be added on where the need arises in future.
