I hit my quarter-life crisis last year and I thought it was time to give my bedroom a new look. Getting my personal space was still a far sight for me and since I spend a good amount of time in my room, sprucing things up was a need for me. I hope these tips also help people who are like me, either living w their parents or in rented spaces! 
Living with others means that your bedroom will double up as your living, study, or even your dining room. It will be good to ask yourself the purpose of your bedroom. More than just for sleeping, my bedroom is a space for me to unwind and get work done. The first space I wanted to design was this a cosy corner that is different from sleeping! To segregate my bed from my cosy corner, I hung up a poster on the wall. The lines help to create a focal point to draw attention to the cosy corner! What is your personality? Rather than following a trend or interior style, try creating a space that reflects yourself. I love music, books and lazing around (I.e. scrolling tiktok). I wanted a space that allows me to do all! While deciding between armchairs and sofas, I got myself a tatami mat instead! It allows me to lie down and chill and also doubles as a carpet. It’s also super cooling to lie down on, perfect for humid and hot days in SG. I also had it custom made to fit the awkward corners of my room. Since then, I’ve avoided lying on my bed for non-sleep purposes. I’ve also gotten a weighted blanket to help improve my sleep. A quick tip is to choose a blanket weight that’s 10% of your body weight.
