We are sharing our journey as we trundle through our day-to-day life as owners of a 5i HDB in the east. We fell in love with the potential the space had to offer and immediately knew what we wanted our home to look like. Here is a view into that vision.
The new layout has allowed us to open up our space and allow for a continuous flow through the house. Everything feels like it has a place, together yet separate in its own right.
We wanted to create a private space, away from prying eyes and corridor passerbys. This space cleverly duals as our tv feature wall on the opposite side, ensuring that it didn’t make our home feel closed off.
Our entryway leads through our kitchen into the rest of our living areas. This unconventional layout has been a conversation starter with many of our first-time guests.
We decided on an in-built hood and hob combo in the Obro to reduce clutter, this allowed us to have a wet and dry kitchen without having the hazard of a hood above our cooking area.
Being able to move around our breakfast bar/kitchen island has come in the clutch so many times when entertaining large groups of family and friends, allowing us to free up even more space.
We love to host and wanted to make sure that the kitchen space was intuitive as we would utilise it often. We decided on a dishwasher for when we just wanted to curl up on the couch after a family event, and even a cup rinser by the sink for our everyday use. All of which have come in clutch for us!
The addition of our arch (pipe) box-up and shelf really livens the space up and allows us to add some flair to this otherwise dull corner of our kitchen
As we decided to knock down our store room, we prioritised having more storage in less often used areas such as the service yard. The carpentry adds functional storage, without making the space feel too cluttered when paired with our appliances.
Eventhough our balcony and living room are level, we still wanted to make it feel like a distinctive area on it’s own. We love the little details, like the arch ceiling beam and our monochrome balcony tiles!
We decided to dress up the largest wall in the house in limewash to add a bit of flair. Paired with our marble dining table and rattan seating, this is our favourite place to lounge during sunsets and mealtimes.
As a place we envisioned our future kids using and getting ready in, we wanted the common bathroom to be bright and have a pop of colour. We love the brightness that the terazzo and green kit kat tiles bring to the space!
With (older) resale houses, some are familiar with recessed spaces around wall beams. We decided to level out one of those spaces, while also making it functional and aesthetic with an arch shelf.
We wanted to have the master bedroom feel like a place that we could unwind and recharge ourselves at the end of our long days. We knocked down our store room to create a more private feel and allow us to have a larger wardrobe space, that leads into our en-suite.
With the addition of a bath tub, we decided to incorporate part of our built-in carpentry to accomodate our sink and vanity area. This compromise allowed us to have a full sized shower, while still allowing us ample space to get ready for our days.
Having a dedicated space to get ready for work or even days out is a definite game changer. No more having to take up the bed with my make up and appliances!
