Our kitchen is all about keeping things open and flexible. We have embraced a simple design that works for us right now, with a central island that serves as the heart of the space.
Since we don’t cook big meals very often, we have kept the layout minimal, leaving room to add more in the future as our needs change. Right now, we like the open feel of the kitchen, but we have allocated space to install doors if we want more separation in the future.
We chose quartz for our table top and crystal glass for our kitchen backing, and it’s been one of the best decisions. It’s not just about aesthetics — both materials are easy to clean and maintain, making them a practical and stylish choice for everyday kitchen use.
Lighting really defines the atmosphere in our kitchen.
We have got two distinct options: a soft LED light running along the bottom of the top cabinets, while the second option is a larger fixture we got from JB, offering four different lighting modes. As seen here, we are using the spotlight setting, which casts focused beams over the kitchen.
It’s definitely a versatile setup that lets us easily shift the mood depending on the time of day or what we’re doing.
During renovation planning, we debated whether to go for a model with an inbuilt ice dispenser. But when we discovered this gem, complete with an inbuilt ice maker, we fell in love. It’s been a fantastic addition, providing us with fresh ice whenever we need it, all without sacrificing space for a water tank like other models. Plus, the fridge features a selectable zone, allowing us to choose different modes based on our needs.
We love how the switches in our kitchen are tucked away under the top cabinets. It’s a simple design choice that keeps the space looking clean without sacrificing convenience. Having them out of sight but still within easy reach fits perfectly with the minimal, uncluttered vibe we wanted for the kitchen.
The spice rack/drawer keeps everything organised and ensures our counter space stays neat. Having all our condiments within easy reach not only saves time while cooking but also adds a touch of order to the space.
We are not in a rush to fill the kitchen with appliances. Right now, we have got the basics covered, and we are planning to add more soon, such as an air fryer.
It feels good to take things slow, only bringing in what we really need, ensuring that our kitchen remains functional without becoming cluttered.
A corner fan is a necessity for us. We usually avoid turning on the AC while cooking, especially with the current weather, so the fan is essential for keeping things cool and comfortable. It helps circulate air, making the space feel more pleasant while we whip up meals.
We made sure all our cabinets are fitted with Blum hinges, and we notice the difference every time we open and close a door/drawer. It’s smooth, quiet, and feels built to last; definitely worth it!
Another feature we love is our pull-out cutlery tray. It’s simple but makes such a difference in keeping everything neat and organised, as there is no need to rummage around for utensils.
We opted for an induction stove instead of a gas one, primarily because it’s easier to clean. The smooth surface of the induction cooktop makes wiping down spills and messes a breeze, saving us time and effort in the kitchen. Plus, we appreciate the safety features and efficiency that induction cooking offers, making it a practical choice for our lifestyle.
Like many households, we have an overhead dish rack that keeps our dishes organised and allows for easy drying. It’s a practical addition that maximises space while keeping everything accessible.
Our kitchen tap is also extendable, which makes cleaning the sink and surrounding areas a lot easier. These small conveniences enhance the functionality of our kitchen, making daily tasks smoother and more efficient.
One unique addition to our kitchen is the cup washer, a request from the Mr. It’s his go-to for quickly rinsing out glasses and mugs, though, honestly, the Mrs don’t use it much herself.
But he enjoys the convenience, so it’s found its place in our kitchen lineup. It’s a small touch that reflects our individual preferences in this shared space.
Thanks for reading, and see you on the next!
