Hello! We are D & E of @_casa.de.fox, and welcome to our virtual house tour!
When we first met with our ID, the three words we used to describe the home we wanted to create were "warm", "cozy", and "airy". We didn't have a particular design style that we were trying to replicate, but we like the calm, warm tones of wood, and D, in particular, loves colour and artsy things. E also likes to keep things clean and is very practical, so many of these considerations came into thought when planning and designing our home with our ID! D also loves making handcrafted things. She and her grandparents made these stained glass pendant lights you see here in the dining room! A precious piece to always remember them by <3 We love how warm and cozy it makes the space feel too!
We bought a 4-room resale (point block) in Clementi, and chose this place due to it's close proximity to D's parents, convenience of location near MRT, and also the beautiful greenery that can be viewed just outside our windows!
The previous layout came with a closed off galley kitchen, right at the entrance of the house, as well as a "jack & jill" common bathroom, where there were 2 entrances, one from the corridor and one from the service yard.
We did 2 main works to the layout:
1. We decided to hack down the kitchen wall, to create an open concept kitchen and make the whole space feel larger, more spacious and inviting when you enter the house.
2. We also created a wall to partition the service yard and toilet, creating 2 separate zones, while also enlarging the service yard for an extra countertop/outdoor cooking area.
Besides these areas, we also redid the carpentry for the kitchen and master bedroom, and retiled the bathrooms. For the flooring, thankfully since the house we bought was only 10 years old, the floor was still in good condition, so we laid over vinyl. Our total renovations cost, including furnishings, has been about $75k.
This is the view when you first enter the house! Here's a little before and after, as you can see, after hacking down the wall, the space feels so much more spacious and airy! Another perk that came with this, the wind is able to flow right through the house making it very breezy.
Our ID suggested creating these false walls and recessed shelving to make use of the empty space and create a display wall for our photos and other decor items. It also acts as a nice divider between our dining room and living room spaces.
A peek into our common bathroom! Calm beach/ocean vibes here~ We love our french doors opening into the bathroom to create more space when opening and closing!
Finally, we come to the master bedroom. We intentionally designed for it to be a more subtle and muted vibe, compared to the outside spaces (kitchen, living room). So that E has a place to retreat from the colour hahah!
We used the same doors for the bathrooms, but used the varnished wood finish for the master bathroom doors to match the darker wood laminates of the bedroom cupboard.
If you've made it this far, thanks so much for reading and touring our home! You may have noticed that we are missing a door at our service yard... well, something exciting will be coming up in the next 2 weeks, so do look out for our service yard/kitchen posts to see what we are adding to our space!!
