  • Welcome to our master bedroom! As with most of the other parts of our house, we didn't have built-ins here to maximise flexibility in the space and also save costs. We painted the wall behind our bed blue - to give the room a pop of colour and also continue with our ocean-theme for the house. We don't have a TV in our room to avoid ourselves turning into bed-potatoes who are constantly watching TV in bed... BUT the wall opposite our bed was deliberately left white so that we can use it as a projector screen wall if we do decide to set up a projector in the future. So I guess... never say never? We also retained the original lights and fan from our house's previous owner in the room to save costs - this is why the alignment of the lights and fan are slightly off. (The previous owner had built in carpentry and a totally different layout)

    Grand Comfort II Mattress

We have blinds in our bedrooms for no other reason apart from stripy Korean blinds being one of Duck's childhood must-have items. We got the blinds customised on Taobao (for a fraction of the price of what we would have paid locally) - they're not COMPLETELY blackout but they do keep the sun out (and also any prying eyes - you'll notice that our unit is dangerously close to our neighbours)

Fun fact about our master bedroom: We don't have bedside tables! Instead, Frog uses a random stool and Duck has this rack from IKEA that doubles up as a vanity, bedside table and storage at the same time (Read more about that in our vanity area post here on Communa!) This is the second level of the rack, which aligns nicely with the height of our bed and serves as Duck's bedside table. It's home to a clock, her Kobo reader, random chargers and most importantly, the remote controls, because she's the boss of this house (just kidding! She's just always cold.)

The bottom levels of the rack are home to random things (like skincare samples and... nail polish, as well as our Pepe tissue holder! Some people find Pepe ugly but we find him quite adorable :)

One of the best decisions we made for our room was to get a storage bed! This has been LIFESAVING - our bed is from MaxCoil (we don't have the exact model unfortunately) but the storage space is HUGE. As you can tell from the photos, we've managed to fit in three luggages, a whole bunch of Frog's army stuff and all our travel/off season clothes (backpacks, sweaters, down jackets...) We also have a foldable mahjong table (not pictured here) that happens to fit exactly into the space in the middle of the storage space so yes, get a storage bed everybody!

    PAX Wardrobe Combination
    S-Enquire for price
Our wardrobe is from IKEA's pax series. One thing Duck really liked about the PAX wardrobe was that the configurations can be changed - you can screw and unscrew all the different shelves and components inside to adjust the height. We also like that IKEA's always launching new PAX components so we can continue optimising our wardrobe system in future as well. Plus we ONLY decided the height of our shelves on the day we were installing it so we could see everything in real life (vs having to list measurements on a carpentry diagram) and make sure the rails/hooks/shelves were all positioned comfortably. Our wardrobe is also really tall looking because we opted for the super-tall 2.4m frames (Yes, it fits into the HDB lift - Duck went to measure the lift personally before we placed our IKEA order) that reach almost to the ceiling. IKEA also provides an option to box up the additional 20cm at the top with carpentry but we thought it looked fine the way it did so we didn't get that option as an add-on.
