Hi HipVan! We’re your homies, also known as @houganghomies 👋🏻 Inspired by homey hotel vibes, we’ve (tried our best to) blend dark contemporary styles with a touch of warmth. It’s our way of creating our own cosy retreat amidst the bustle 🏠
This was probably the hardest post we’ve had to write because we don’t really have an entryway / foyer of sorts.
This is the entrance from our home’s floor plan! Because our bomb shelter is located in our kitchen, you'll notice that our home doesn’t have a traditional foyer area, so the main door opens directly into the living room, making it difficult to carve out space for a foyer.
For us, creating a practical and convenient space for when we enter and leave the home was still important so here’s what we did!
The first thing you’ll see upon arriving is our matte black metal gate with diagonal panels, offering a blend of style and privacy. The panels are not only visually appealing but also helps us maintain privacy while allowing air to flow into the house.
We added a small window at the peephole that allows us to safely check who’s at the door without opening it, making it a functional and secure feature entryway.
One of our favorite additions is the grey sitting stool placed just outside the black gate door. It’s a convenient spot to sit and put on shoes before heading out, and also a storage solution for commonly used footwear.
With little entryway space, we got the sleek BTO shoe rack that fits neatly between the gate and main wooden door. This space-saving piece was designed specifically for BTO houses, which is perfect for maximizing the use of smaller spaces. This helps us keep the entryway organized while ensuring we have easy access to our shoes.
P.S Our adorable Smiski wearing his socks haphazardly is such a real representation of us hopping around as we wear our shoes 😂
Despite not having a foyer space, we appreciate that our main door opens directly into our living room - giving us a spacious open-concept layout that we love coming back home to.
We also installed the Kadaas Digital Lock for both our gate and main door so that we wouldnt have to carry keys with us.
Just inside, you'll find our DB box, tucked neatly into the wall, showcasing the warm walnut brown laminate that we use around the rest of the house.
Without space for additional cupboards, we made our DB box our storage space by adding in additional shelving planks. It’s where we store shoes, umbrellas and items that we reach out for right before leaving home, keeping our entryway free of clutter in a discreet yet functional manner.
It also houses our favourite card games - all for easy access, as our dining table is right next to the DB box. – all neatly organized in one space.
Something our family and friends always ask when they visit is “Why is there a socket on your ceiling?” 🤔
While it might seem unusual at first glance, this was a deliberate decision we made with our IDs when designing the house. Anticipating the possibility of installing a indoor camera for security reasons in the future, we added this discreet power socket to ensure that a camera can be easily connected without cluttering the space or affecting the aesthetic of the entryway.
And that’s how we created our entryway in our non-existent foyer space!
