As new homeowners, we had the craziest time hosting during CNY which just passed!
On the first day of CNY, we catered food and had 60+pax of family members grace our home! Did we survive? Yes. Would we do it again? Maybe.
Let us share how we prepped the house for it!
Over here, you can see all the food catered are on the island counter. The island counter can be easily accessible since no one will be seated around the area which allows the perfect flow for humans to walk through!
Our rubbish bags are in the service yard to ensure no one kicks the rubbish or get our furniture stained!
We kept our 1.8m long dining table (comfortable for about 10+pax!) for our guests to eat at and kept the home well lit to ensure no accidents!
We opened our 1.5m foldable table and furnished it with seats for more people to hang around and eat at! Most important is to ensure people can still move around the table and seats if required!
We actually bought a 1.4m bench for additional seats around the home! this bench is good for about 3 pax! We had alot of footfall at the sofa area and around the coffee tables as well! We love the coffee tables that came in 2 pieces of different height and size. It gives us alot of opportunity to play around with them!
Key points to take note for hosting big groups:
1. Where is the designated food point? Is it convenient for people to get to that area? Will there be people seated or furniture that will block the route?
2. What food are you ordering? Is it suitable for the group? Have you ordered enough food? What is the back up if there is not enough food?
3. Where will people eat at?
4. Where do you want your guests to dispose of the rubbish? Is it convenient to get there? Is there a chance an accident might happen that causes damage or stains to the furniture?
3. Aircon or fan? do you have window grills? is it dangerous for kids if the windows are left open?
4. Which rooms you want to allow your guests to use? Our guests consisted of many children so we closed off our home gym for their safety!
Our hosting session was a blast and everyone had a great time! Looking back, we're happy we hosted and the only thing we would change is closing the windows earlier since there were kids jumping around and we don't have window grills yet! We often don't notice these since we are DINKs but in the end everyone remained safe and had lots of fun!
