Since the beginning, we were quite sure about what we wanted in our home in terms of the layout and what we envisioned the purpose of each room/space was for. I had already designed our home using the app called "Homebyme" prior to meeting IDs. For every ID we met, we showed them our 3d plans and believed that we got a more accurate quotation to compare. With every meeting with a new ID, we always learned something new about what the standard surfaces, laminates, and sizes were. And from there, I refined my designs even further. This is also great to have when proposing new design plans to ID with a more clearer vision. In this post, I'm sharing our final design plan as of early this year. I have since made a lot of tiny changes to our design and intend to DIY to add more colours into our space.

This is how I initially designed our service yard. It's a simple design with a mini floating bar table with lots of greenery. The idea was to be able to watch as the laundry completes a cycle. In the end, we weren't able to furnish this space as we wanted as our other more used spaces takes priority.

These two spaces are always evolving with time. Back when I designed these, I went with a more neutral scheme. A year in of living in the neutral home, we are ready for colours to be incorporated more. So, I've made some changes and added a ton of colours which would include lots of upcoming DIY projects!
  • This was how our living room actually turned out. At this point, we aren't able to fully refine the specific furniture we wanted due to costs, but we worked with what we had and got pieces either secondhand, gifted, or were on sale.

The kitchen is probably the space that we have changed the least since it's the only built-in in our home. So, naturally, there's not much that we could have done. Although, we've decided that we've have enough grey. So, we're planning to wrap our cabinets with a brighter warm toned colour to make our kitchen feel less sterile.

This is our revised kitchen, although I'm still undecided if I want a yellow/beige cabinet or a pink one. There's some addition to our carpentry which is part of our 5 year plan (which is to re-renovate our home). We felt that despite having an island, we still found that the countertop space were too small to work with. As our initial home renovation costed us 15K, while it is still a lot of money, we are okay to part with this initial investment as it is a small-ish amount in the renovation industry in Singapore. What this 15K reno has taught us was a lot of invaluable experiences after living in this home and because of that, we were able to figure out what truly works in our home with our lifestyle.
