Hi! We're first-time homeowners who are constantly navigating and figuring things out. Dan has a penchant for vibrant hues, while Muz is a dedicated follower of all things black.
Welcome to Rumah Angkasa (rumah means home, angkasa means space/sky) – where our ever-evolving abode reflects a blend of our personalities and will always be a constant work-in-progress.
Built in the early 2000s, this is a 5-room flat with an odd-shaped living room and a really spacious master bedroom. What truly won us over was the unique, non-boxy design of the living area and the abundant natural light that brightens every part of the house (excluding the kitchen and bathrooms).
For every cat pawrent out there, it's always wise to choose a gate where your cats won't easily escape. We decided to opt for this design of the gate, along with a repaint of the main door. A lot of our friends who came over commented that they could easily recognise our home from the gate and door colour.
For our entryway, we fixed a small shoe cabinet onto the wall, along with a pegboard for our keys, mails, shopping bags and all-things that are necessary and easy to reach out to before going out.
The dining area is warmly lit up by the Kartell FL/Y pendant lamp, which we bought at a steal from Carousell. This was actually the first purchase for our home, and we were so stoked for it.
As for the dining table, it's a unique creation with Dan's DIY effort – it's a combination of a customised tabletop, along with table legs that we got from Etsy. To add a touch of vibrancy, we decided to play with different colours for our dining chairs.
The living room is pretty much the most vibrant space in the house. Some guests even commented that this is actually the most colourful house they've been to :')
We kept the space lean with a 2-seater sofa accompanied with 2 other chairs on the opposite for our guests to interact easily with one another. Although in the future, we might actually switch up our current sofa to a bigger sofa as we found that we spend alot of our time chilling in the living room - hence we wanted something more comfortable.
Here's our snug nook, Dan's beloved spot. Over the years, we've been gathering vinyl records from our respective travels. We were absolutely thrilled when, after getting married, we could finally combine both of our collections.
Another favourite part of our home is the balcony. We've always wanted to keep plants, and this home was perfect for us. The only change we did to the balcony was to simply switch the sliding door with a bi-fold door that is able to be folded against the wall. The door allowed us to keep our cats away from the plants (considering that one of them is a menace who absolutely loves eating plants).
Among all the areas in our home, the kitchen received the least natural light. To counter this, we opted for an all-white kitchen, brightened by colorful appliances and accessories to add a lively touch.
And among all the areas in our home, this is the only spot that is monochrome. You can say that our common bathroom looks pretty common haha. We refer to it as the 'moon crate' within our Angkasa.
Our master bedroom's bathroom blends in well with all other parts of our home. We added a few touches of colours to make our bathroom pop, starting from the lamp that we got off Carousell, and our customised vanity cabinet.
