welcome to my kids' bedrooms!
We went with a 4 bedder unit partly because each kid was excited to have a bedroom to decorate to their liking.
As the bedroom is solely for rest and relaxation, we kept to just having a built in wardrobe and the rest we used moveable furniture to furnish their rooms to fit their lifestyle.
Lets take a look!
Above is my preteen's bedroom. She chose the colour blue as her accent colour for her walls and furnished it with grey carpentry for a look suitable for a teenager.
This is my 8 year's wardrobe choice. She just wanted a white and brown themed for her room, not knowing that she was leaning towards the popular scandinavian theme.
She chose her laminates so quickly and resolutely that no matter what laminates i showed her after that, she just shook her head and stuck to her first choice.
The old parquet floor was in bad condition as you can see, it was discoloured and had big gaps in between. We were also not sure how much water damage underneath the parquet that could cause problems in the future so we had to bite the bullet and hack it away.
All bedrooms had the same vinyl from wood culture. We purposefully chose a colour that was different from the usual oak colour. We also wanted a darker coloured vinyl to add warmth in the rooms and also for easier maintenance as we feel that hairs and dustballs are not so obvious on darker coloured vinyl.
All the toilets' swing and slide doors are the same design. We were looking at the popular lourve doors but decided to go with a fabric looking door instead after seeing it on somebody's instagram account and fell in love with it.
After installation, we think that we made the right choice as reviews said that lourve toilet doors had cons such as smell and sound all can be heard clearly from outside and it is a hassle to clean the gaps.
both kids have different taste and we gave them full rein to choose the colours and carpentry laminates in their bedrooms.
8 year chose Nippon whispering white, an off white colour for her white and brown themed bedroom.
8 year old has a single bed with a pull out below to maximise space. the pull out bed was meant for the youngest to sleep at while his room is being used as the study room for the time being.
one thing about ikea wooden bookcase is that the quality isnt that great. about a year in, we realised that the middle shelf was warped in the middle and the screws where the planks were sitting on was out of the wood due to the weight of the books.
therefore we changed to a metal one bought from taobao. it had the height and width that i need and was easy to assemble.
this is definitely more sturdy and durable than the wooden one!
8 year old is quite into art and has quite a few art pieces that she is proud of.
i bought her these magnetic frames that we paste on the wall using 3M command strips that we can easily change out the pictures.
take note that the paint on the catalogue and the actual paint on the wall would look different. in actual fact, the walls have several coats of paint so the colour would come out darker than the paint catalogue. the colour can look different on each wall as well as it also depends on how much sun hits the walls.
Kompacplus ledge so that the ledge can be a useful place to use. they use the ledge to play with their toys, computers or sometimes sit on the ledge to enjoy the view.
Due to them being able to sit on the ledge, we decided to get rid of the ugly, thick, white grilles and installed invisible grilles to get a better view but not compromise on safety.
with a central wardrobe divider, i can put two rows on clothes and thus making it neater. if i could redo the configuration, i might make more drawers with shallower depths.
Though the siblings have their own bedrooms, we try to encourage them to interact together as much as possible for sibling bonding.
Thats all for the kids' bedrooms. We hope they have good memories of their childhood growing up here!
