#1 We upgraded to Ecoply wood for all our built-in carpentry (kitchen, wardrobe, bed base, and toilet cabinet), topping up an extra $1,000+ on top of usual carpentry rates! Pricey? A little. Worth it? Absolutely!
If you’ve encountered that strong unpleasant smell or had stinging sensation in your eyes when entering a newly renovated space—that’s probably the formaldehyde from carpentry and adhesives! Exposure to these chemicals can be detrimental to health, and while removal services, gels, and purifiers exist, we chose to avoid the hassle! Another way was to ventilate the area for weeks-- even so, it may not completely "remove" the formeldahyde.
Ecoply wood was the most practical for a healthier and safer living environment, even at a higher cost. It is regarded as one of the safest interior plywood options because of its very low formaldehyde emissions, making it a healthier choice for our home without compromising on high-quality craftsmanship. We made the switch just days before renovations began!
Ecoply wood comes with a subtle green dial as an indicator. We checked all our carpentry before the laminates were applied, just to have a piece of mind that we got what we're paying for! 🫣😂 But you'll also notice the difference, as it won’t have that distinct "renovation smell"! 👃🏼
The adhesive used is also a low formaldehyde formula aka ecoply glue. All in all, it was definitely worth the additional top up! You can always ask your ID about this option! :)

#2 The next best purchase of our renovation was this built in Quartz shelving! Mrs had a difficult time finding the right soap rack and finally decided on this at very last minute (sorry ID!). 😅
No regrets because it's easy to clean.
Per shelf: $90 each
X 4 shelves: $360
