Hello and welcome to another post on our entryway!🫶🏻 In today’s post, we’ll be going through some tips to make your entryway inviting, practical and aesthetic at the same time.😉 Let’s get started! 
Start by trying to visualise the space and how best to use it. For us, we did not do any reno after getting our place so we did not have any ID to show us any rendering or drawing of our space and how it could be used. The only carpentry we did after getting our home was our shoe cabinet which was mentioned in our previous entryway post. After first living in this place for the first few years with hand-me-down furnitures and keeping the home bare, we finally decided to spruce it up. I’ve always love recessed walls with nicely decorated shelves but those needed specific carpentry and are super pricey! Decided to just get the billy shelf from IKEA as it was clean and minimal looking and could fit the aesthetic that we wanted. Tried to draw (poorly) to visualise before we committed hahaha. Got a 80cm long shelf and a 40cm one to put side by side and styled it a little. Felt that there was still room for one more 80cm shelf as we underestimated the length of the wall haha. Tip: Better to buy less rather than to buy more.😉 It’s gonna be hard to store or sell off excess materials or furniture rather than buying more when you need more. 
We bought another 80cm billy shelf after that to make the shelf symmetrical looking and to fill up the whole of this wall from the entrance to the tv console. This is the current look after all the styling which took years of trial and error, and curating things that I love aesthetically hehe. Tip: Styling takes time and effort. Start with having a theme in mind and go from there. A few rules I follow is to bundle objects of different heights to create visual depth, and also go by the rule of 3.🤭 There’s no one rule when it comes to styling so do whatever makes you happy.❤️ 
Back to an old photo of our old styled shelf. You can see that I wasn’t good at styling back then.😂 And omg all that clutter and mess, I’m amazed how we managed to live like that last time hahahaha. From this we learnt that I did not like mess and clutter so we got lots of baskets and holders to put them away. Tip: Use aesthetic baskets and boxes to hide clutter while making your home look nice.✨Get baskets that goes with the overall colour theme of your home. It took us a while to realise that we liked the bright and airy scandi look.🥲 Had to sell all the dark wood baskets because light wood ones looked better for us. 
Slowly changed the colour theme to suit our liking. The dark wood baskets stood out like sore thumbs which was why we sold it off.😂 The grey cushion on the shoe cabinet also annoyed me so I DIYed to change it to another colour. See our previous post on our entryway to see how I did it. 
Finally this is the current look of our entryway.🥹 No clutter, fits our overall colour theme and is aesthetically pleasing (to me hahaha). 
Some details of our styled shelf. Tip: Incorporate some aesthetic trinket trays and storage boxes to place everyday used items like keys, coins and other loose items. 
We got the sculpture on the top shelf from Sweden a few years back. The mister says that it’s useless and a waste of money because it literally has no use other than looking good, unlike a vase or a candle holder which can still be used for something. But I liked it so we got it hahahaha. Tip for husbands: Remember guys, wife is always right.😉👍🏻
