We were not given the option to opt of the flooring, doors and basic fittings for our BTO. This was what we got – “dark wood” vinyl flooring, doors and skirtings.
It was ok and in move-in condition… but it wasn’t our dream home. We had also read many horror stories about vinyl flooring, and knew that we should get tiles.
And so we stripped the vinyl flooring and skirtings!
Another thing that was an eyesore for us was the uneven wall at the back of the living room (why?!).
There was also an unhackable structural pillar on the left (near the kitchen).
Visually, everything looked very “sharp” and “angular”, which we didn’t like.
Instead of filling up the gap in the uneven wall, we opted for a feature wall, and the awkward gap served as a display shelf!
To soften the sharp corners of the pillars, we also requested for an arch to frame the corridor. We also requested for our aircon box-up to be curved, to soften up the look even more.
Since the structural pillar on the left was unhackable, we installed and rested our bifold glass doors against it. These bifold glass doors have been really useful when we are cooking.
