Welcome to our heim in the East of Sunny Singapore ☀️
Heim is a German word for Home, and since we took quite a bit of inspo from the formative bauhaus theme, we have decided to call our place doublejo_heim. Oh yes and of course, we are Josh and Jo - hence the doublejo!
(spot the cat)
Our heim is a 95sqm BTO with non-optional component scheme, so the flooring, tiles and most of the fittings that you’ll see in this post are actually provided by HDB.
(...you'll notice a recurring cat motif, any other cat parents out there?)
The theme for our space is a mix between bauhaus and mid-century modern - just nice for a young couple like us who prioritise flexibility in our furniture and minimal built-ins (save money too)!
Of course, open concept comes with its pros and cons. On one hand, cooking fumes do get around the house. On the other, we get to carve out a nice peninsula for WFH days and a nice cuppa.
The most major reno work we did was to hack one of our bedrooms to expand our living & dining area.
There are actually a lot of little things to consider when hacking a room (such as AC piping), which we'll expand upon more in a future post.
One of the things we REALLY wanted right from the beginning was a round dining table to soften the look of the space. We made a conscious choice to avoid making structural changes to achieve this, such as curving our beams or adding arches (to save cost mostly).
So, a round dining table was the way to go!
