Here's how the kitchen looks like from the living room to help you visualise how the cooking area opens up into the living room. And here's how the kitchen looks like when you turn left from the foyer of our home! Note: Our ID did suggest transforming the curved island into a seating area with tall dining chairs but we decided not to go with it to allow for more storage space. That said, it is a good alternative for those who like to sit and dine in their kitchen! 
First let's zoom into our cooking area. Due to limitations of space in our galley kitchen and a need for more countertop space, we went for an oven that sits below our hob instead of a full-height cabinet. To facilitate easy retrieval of sauces and utensils for cooking, we opted for drawers directly below the hob and next to it. This is one of our must-haves when it comes to carpentry and definitely one for you to consider if you are planning how to maximise the storage space in your cooking area! On that note, we also topped up money to obtain Blum drawers instead of the default Excel hardware which our ID provided. We had a bit more faith in the former brand and do not regret getting it since it has served us really well. You can also select options of how much weight your drawer can hold up to (e.g. 30kg, 60kg)! 
Another handy tip involving design of carpentry in our kitchen is to have a hidden paper towel compartment. We learnt this from the homeowners home.swee.home on Instagram which we feel helps to save countertop space and keep the paper towels out of sight. The open space can also accommodate power sockets to hide them from view.

HipVanUnverifiedMayer Instant Hot Water Dispenser With Filter, MMIHW25S-Enquire for priceFirst on the countertop would be our hot water dispenser which comes with a tank that needs to be manually filled. While the conveniences of a piped water dispenser cannot be denied, we thought that we would save on this area of cost, especially since we mainly require hot water for tea and coffee only. 
Below, we have drawers which serve us well in storing daily utensils, plates, cups, containers and even our rice cooker. Here's a sneak of what's in the top drawer! Not the neatest but we are thankful for the design and production of such containers that we got on TaoBao that help to organise our utensils in a fairly neat manner. Next to that set of drawers is an open shelving for our toaster and microwave. We find that this is a great way to save countertop space and we are glad that we went ahead with this idea so that our tabletops are clear and spacious. In the space below, we opted for a large deep drawer for the easy storage of pots and pans. Apart from an extendable rack that we got from Taobao, we used IKEA's pegboard drawer organiser to help arrange our pots and pans neatly. 
Sink-wise, we went with black granite to match the other darker appliances in the kitchen. We do find the choice of a double sink to be useful in separating the drying of recyclables and/or defrosting of meat. That said, it does reduce the washing space one has which a huge single sink affords so this will be up to your preference and needs! Towards the end of our kitchen is where we do our laundry and we opted to have a drawer to allow for easy access to cleaning items. We are really thankful we went with this choice as it has been a great convenience to easily slide out this drawer to retrieve the items we need! Finally, we have a close-up of our laundry area! Having a side-by-side system of a washer and dryer to allow for more countertop space above was an idea we do not regret. It has been utilised daily to sort our laundry and even as extra space to plug in appliances, such as our rice cooker. Above is a short laundry rack to hang items should they be unsuitable for the dryer and/or simply to air clothing safely indoors. 
Concluding our post with a snippet of how we leave our garlic, onions and potatoes in the open. We wonder how others do it too as we find this to be tricky to store well in our home.
