Welcome to our service yard! As you can see, we do not have a dedicated service yard area, as we have seamlessly integrated it into our galley-style kitchen.
We chose to do so as we wanted the kitchen to be bigger. With a large standing cooker (90cm) and large farmhouse sink, we have limited counter top space, so we wanted the counter to extend all the way to the windows. That also gave us more room for storage and our dishwasher.
We chose these pretty colonial style tiles for the yard floor, which is level with the kitchen flooring.
Since we had full height carpentry on the side with the washer & dryer, our Mini Steigen could not fit the same way the HDB laundry rack was installed, so we installed the Mini Steigen perpendicularly, parallel to the counters.
This allows for the extendable rods to extend fully, and our cabinet doors can also fully open.
This is our typical laundry set up. We would wheel our laundry basket to this spot, sort the clothing and put them into the washing machine. This extendable counter top comes in handy for the smaller pieces of clothing too!
For the mister's T shirts and my dresses, I will hang them on the Steigen while the other clothing will go into the dryer.
I also love that the Mini Steigen comes with 3 toned lights. We use the Steigen's light whenever we need the yard area to be brighter.
When the Steigen's lights are turned off, our yard area is so cosy! The lights from the kitchen area are still sufficiently bright for us to do our chores.
One tip we have for you when building full height carpentry around your washer & dryer tower is to leave MORE leeway. As ours is a VERY snug fit, we are unable to reach the sockets behind the washing machine. Also, there was quite a bit of stress when the delivery guys had to carry and stack the dryer on top.. It almost could not fit. Plus, it was so dangerously close to the window that there isn't enough space for them to maneuver around the other side. It would be great to have these in consideration in the future!
