Hi everyone! I'm back with a new post, this time about my minimalist laundry area.
You can see that this area gets a lot of sun too, perfect for a laundry day!
To the casual observer, this might seem like a simple pass-through area to the common bathroom on the left. But little do they know, this space hides a complete laundry and cleaning storage system!
The two key appliances here are the Steigen Solar Pro Drying Rack and the Samsung AI Front-Loading Washing Machine. When not in use, both blend seamlessly with their surroundings.
The drying rack, chosen in white to match the ceiling colour, and the jet-black washing machine don't stand out obtrusively when passing through this area, at least, in my opinion. Haha!
Right above the washing machine, the KompacPlus countertop and Terrazzo backsplash extend seamlessly from the kitchen, providing ample space for folding laundry as well as additional counter space for food prep.
The power points and switches are also conveniently located for both laundry and kitchen activities!
If you look closely, you'll notice the countertop is slightly deeper to accommodate the washing machine and dishwasher without them protruding.
I love using this Samsung Bespoke AI Washing Machine! It automatically detects the load size and fabric type, optimizing water, detergent, and softener usage.
With just a touch of a button, it saves time, water, and energy. Plus, it's connected to my phone, so I get notifications when the laundry is finished!
I've heard horror stories about washer-dryer machines shrinking clothes and not being able to dry clothes well enough.
While hanging my laundry requires a bit more effort, I love how fresh and crisp they turn out after that. It certainly helps too, that this drying rack can be controlled remotely through Steigen's app.
Plus, after living here for almost a year, I've realised it's easy to forget about finished laundry in a washing machine. Seeing the clothes hanging up there reminds me to fold and put them away promptly!
To the right of my laundry area, these olive-green laminated cupboards discreetly hide my laundry and cleaning supplies, while also complementing my kitchen's aesthetic!
To the right, I store my ironing board and iron. I also love the customisable shelving (I currently stacked the additional shelving boards at the foot of the ironing board), which could accommodate a smaller ironing board in the future, allowing for even more storage.
Here's a peek inside the cupboards, where I store my laundry and cleaning supplies.
Storage Tip: Keeping everything visible helps to minimise clutter and see which of your items are in low supply!
I intentionally installed these AA tracks to ensure the space remains customisable as my storage needs evolve.
While they were a bit more expensive, they were definitely worth the investment to me!
Before I got these affordable, airtight containers from the Value Dollar Shop, I wasted a lot of storage space.
These containers allow me to maximise vertical space while still being able to visually keep track of my supplies!
That’s all for my laundry area tour!
If you like what you see or have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below. I'll be happy to answer them!
Until the next part of my house tour, see ya!
I’m thinking whether or not to remove the door between the kitchen and the yard. My main concern is that cooking smell may travel to the hanging clothes. What’s your experience with this? Any tips to share. Beautiful kitchen btw and thanks for sharing about it!
Great question! Sharing from personal experience, it really comes down to habit and a set routine. Since I have an open kitchen and laundry area, I've found three habits helpful:I do my laundry after dinner and let it dry overnight using the 3-hour heating function on my Steigen, which dries my clothes completely. I do laundry on non-cooking or light-cooking days, typically twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays. I usually take down my dried laundry almost right away as I am someone who usually doesn’t like to see a “mess”.It really isn't very troublesome if you're disciplined, and it's become pretty instinctive for me now.I hope this helps!
i love the practicality of it! and it looks so spacious! could i ask what the distance is between the steigen and the window? been trying to figure out how far from the window we should install ours hehe thank u!
It’s about 35cm! However, I would highly recommend you book an appointment for Steigen to help you make a free assessment directly at your place so they will measure out the placement for you as they will take into account stuff beyond just distance from windows that consumers like us might not be wary of. I don’t believe they were pushy to force a sale either! =]
