Before we look at the DIY TV console, lets look at the biggest item in the living room, the sofa.
The sofa is bought from taobao. It is a modular sofa, which all pieces are sold separately. Yes it means that the backrest, seat, and armrest can moved around and configured as you like.
Out of the many possible configurations, these are the only 2 configurations that we use at home. One for hosting and one for our daily Netflix session :D
Instead of covering up the bomb shelter, we decided to keep it exposed but painted matte black. This not only saved us money, this also allowed our living space to remain as spacious as it can be. And can I also mention that the painted bomb shelter actually look really good? We can also make use of the bomb shelter door’s magnetic property to stick on important notes or decors.
And here is the long awaited DIY TV console!
I’ve always wanted to try making my own furniture, and after knowing the price of a built-in 3m TV console, it was an easy decision for me to make this as as my first furniture project.
I purchased wood online from Hessen, which only totaled to around $150. For pieces that are already cut-to-size, I went on to install the pieces using a combination of glue and pocket holes. For the pieces that have to be cut, I used a jigsaw to cut the pieces, followed by a sander to sand the edges down. And with that, I finally finished the project!
For drawers, I used castor wheels instead of drawer tracks as it is more direct to install and bonus, I can pull out the drawer and drag it to wherever needed :D
This fluted design is added more for practicality rather than aesthetics. 1. the gaps between the wood allows the router’s wifi signal to pass through. 2. the wood pieces allows me to cover the curved edge easily (instead of e.g. bend a piece of wood to cover the curved edge).
To access the routers, I can remove the magnet-attached wood pieces, and attach it back when done. There’s just so much I can share about this project so feel free to leave any comments or insta-dm me if you have any questions!
