To give you a bit of context, I don't have a dedicated dining room. It's more of a transitional area between my kitchen and living room. So, I wanted to create a space that could serve multiple purposes: a dining area, an extension of the living room, and a workspace.
I got this IKEA table for free thanks to IKEA's New Home Package!
Insider Tip: For every $2000 spent on IKEA's furniture, you get a $300 voucher. It's a great deal, if you're renovating your new home. To be eligible, just show your renovation permit to redeem your vouchers which will then be valid for 3 months from the date of issuance!
I opted for the LISABO Round Table to maximise flexibility. It comfortably seats 4, but with a few extra chairs placed diagonally, it can easily accommodate 8 guests.
This was a crucial consideration for my small space, as it allows me to adapt the area to different needs.
You might have noticed that all my chairs are different. It's a deliberate choice, and I'll share more about them, further down this post!
I sourced my tableware from three affordable places: IKEA, Daiso, and Taobao.
Daiso, especially their Threepy line, offers surprisingly high-quality and stylish tableware options. I'm a big fan!
I found all my chairs on Taobao. They had so many great mid-century modern designs that I couldn't resist picking a mix of different styles and ultimately creating an eclectic look!
I randomly spend most of my time on this chair, working and eating. The cream faux leather cushion is not only stylish but also super easy to clean!
This velvety green chair is the most perfect match for my kitchen colour scheme. The back support is also really great for guests who like to lean back and relax!
As I mentioned earlier, this transitional space needed to connect smoothly with my living area and kitchen.
A round table also allows people to easily move between the two areas from either side of the table.
It's also the perfect spot for TV dinners!
When I need a change of scenery, this dining area doubles as my workspace. It's more open than my study and offers a great view of the whole house, which helps me feel less claustrophobic and more productive. Plus, it's easy to grab a quick snack when I need one!
That’s all for my dining area tour!
