Hello everyone! Welcome to our self-designed home!
Our home is a 4-room BTO unit that took us 6 applications over 2 years before we finally secured a home! While we would have wanted a 5-room unit, we opted for a 4-room unit instead after studying the floor plans as our BTO plot had more 4-room units that did not face the west sun!
We aimed to create a space that is both serene and welcoming. The main theme for our house is Japandi fusion theme, blending the warmth of Japanese minimalism with the airy elegance of Scandinavian design.
Natural materials like light wood set the tone for tranquillity, while clean lines and a neutral colour palette throughout ensure a sense of calm. But that's not all! You will see pops of Santorini-inspired blue charm peeking through, adding a touch of vibrancy and creating a harmonious living experience. This space is all about finding the perfect balance between simplicity, functionality, and elegance – and we hope you love it!
Step into our Japandi-theme dining area! The sintered stone wood table and chairs/bench are the centrepiece, representing the natural materials and minimalist design typical of both Japanese and Scandinavian styles.
We also specifically picked a pendant light that has wood tops to complement the aesthetic, adding warmth and organic texture to the space while providing functional illumination.
Moving into the living hall, the minimalist theme takes center stage. Clean lines and uncluttered spaces create a sense of calm, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
The centrepiece is our beige 2-seater sofa and a massage chair in our living room! Continuing the white wood theme, we got these white wood track lights!
We got an off-the-shelf minimalist white TV console to seamlessly fit into the tranquil white tones of our living room that defines Japandi-inspired sanctuary.
We bought a sleek cabinet from Tao Bao that is adorned with natural textures and subtle accents! Perfect to organise and keep essentials close at hand without clutter. Instead of doing a feature arch wall, we painted an arch in a serene shade of blue 💙, adding a pop of color and a sense of movement to the living room. It is a subtle yet striking detail that transforms our dry pantry into a work of art, a space where functionality meets beauty in perfect harmony. 🌈
For the hot sunny weather of Singapore, we also placed a corner fan at the corner for our dining area. Matching the theme, we picked white wood design for the fan!
Now, let's peek into the kitchen! This is where the Santorini theme comes alive. The white cabinets and countertops are accented by the refreshing pops of blue. The colour scheme transitions beautifully from the Japandi foyer and living room, creating a cohesive flow.
The lower cabinets are light blue, creating a beautiful contrast with the white upper cabinets and instantly evoking the relaxed spirit of Santorini. The chrome knobs and handles add a touch of sophistication offering a more understated elegance.
We have built-in LED strip lights on both sides of the kitchen to bathe the space in a warm glow, ensuring ample light for any culinary task. This functional and stylish solution adds a touch of modern elegance to our Santorini haven.
Finally, we have the master bedroom, which embraces the tranquillity of the Japandi theme. Light wood tones and calming neutrals create a restful retreat for a good night's sleep.
When it comes to renovation costs, we managed to achieve this look for under $30k. Here is a money-saving tip for all you new homeowners out there: consider furniture from Taobao or Ikea! We found some fantastic pieces for our dry pantry cabinet and TV console on Taobao, and they really elevated the entire look without breaking the bank.
We hope this tour inspires you to create your own dream home!
