Welcome to our humble nest! We are a couple living with our cat, Daikon, who's sure to make an appearance in some of our posts. Keep an eye out — you never know when she'll pop up in the background! As we open our home and showcase the little treasures within, we hope you feel the warmth and love that fills our heart. After all, our handle is @hellokokoro, where "kokoro" means heart! *** Our beautiful Modern Farmhouse home was designed by the lovely Michelle from OliveCreekStudio. You can find her on Instagram or visit her at olivercreekstudio.com Today we're giving you a tour of our home, complete with floor plans! Here's a glimpse of what we see when we first step through the main gate and door. Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood of our home. Instead of peppering them all across the ceiling, they are strategically placed throughout the space. Here, you can see one of them beautifully illuminating our altar bookshelf. And here's the main gate! It's adorned by a handcrafted wooden sign that reads, "God Bless This Home and All Who Enter". We hope that whoever enters feels welcomed and leaves with a sense of blessing. We've also cable tied black mesh to our gate to provide an extra level of protection for Daikon without obstructing the view. As our furry companion continues to grow, we may decide to remove the mesh later on! 
This was the mood board we shared with our ID. We've actually incorporated quite a few elements from here! 
Here's the mood board from our ID. The curved sofa is definitely the standout piece in our home! Did you know it's called "Marlow sofa" because it resembles marshmallows? We also chose the dining lights shown in this mood board. We love their vintage look, which perfectly complements the farmhouse vibe. 
This older floor plan features three distinct bedrooms. When we acquired the house, the previous owner had already knocked down the wall between the main bedroom and bedroom 2. The larger master bedroom works perfectly for us as a couple. Check out the updated floor plans below! 
The original floor plan reflects the layout as it was when we first received the keys. The items marked in red were dismantled and disposed of, which involved quite a bit of demolition and accounts for a significant portion of our renovation costs. And yes, the original layout of the master bathroom included a bathtub! However, we found it wasn't very practical for our daily routines, so we decided to remove it — much to the surprise of some of our friends. This change has really optimized the space for our needs, making it more functional and enjoyable. Our advice is to choose the things that resonates with your lifestyle! In the new layout, you can see our new carpentry and key changes, such as positioning the TV console at an angle and curving the wall at the kitchen entrance. 
This is one of our favourite photos of our home (hence it's our thumbnail!), showcasing the foyer, dining area, and living room. We love the warm color palette, enhanced by the textured ash paint that mimics the look of limewash! Our modern farmhouse theme truly comes to life with the addition of a barn door, which discreetly conceals our bomb shelter. Coupled with the abundant wall paneling in our living and kitchen spaces, these classic design elements creates a rustic and warm atmosphere that defines our farmhouse aesthetic. 
Here's an angle from the dining table, showcasing the cat climbers that are integrated as a charming feature of the living area. 
We love the open layout of our foyer, living, and dining area, which allows us to see every corner of the space. The layout creates a sense of flow and openness. The tiles in the foyer and kitchen seamlessly merged with those in the living room at a gentle curve. The combination of these two distinct tile designs is stunning and this picture highlights the intricate details. A thin metallic stripe runs along the boundary where the two tiles meet, creating a clean, defined line. This elegant detail adds a touch of sophistication while highlighting the contrast between the two materials. We can appreciate how the two tile designs blend harmoniously here. The gentle curve not only enhances the visual transition but also invites us into the living area and kitchen, creating a cohesive flow throughout the space. 
This is our doorless kitchen entrance which seamlessly integrates the space into the open layout of the foyer, living, and dining area. The curved opening serves to define the space while also helping to block some of the fumes that may escape during the rare occasions we do heavy cooking. We have zero issues with lingering smells so far! The curved wall also elegantly separates the kitchen from the dining area, while the frosted glass panel — behind which lies the common bathroom — allows natural light to filter through while maintaining privacy. Here's a sneak peek into our common bathroom where warm tones blend seamlessly with modern design. The mink subway tiles on the walls are arranged in a herringbone pattern, with a different orientation on the half wall for added visual interest and the floor features floral-patterned tiles, creating a charming contrast. The curved wooden vanity softens the look, introduces a natural element to the space, and mirrors the curved wall opposite it. Lets move into the kitchen now! If you look at our floor plan, the kitchen has a triangle layout, which presents some challenges for fitting the appliances we wanted. We had to be strategic in our design choices to make the most of the space! Despite the compact space, we successfully incorporated a dishwasher, a sizeable sink, and a twin wash! The shaker panels complete the farmhouse aesthetic beautifully. Check out our kitchen post for more details! Now let's move on to our bedrooms. We have just two bedroom doors, as the master bedroom has been combined with one of the common bedrooms. Both doors feature a clean, classic white wood finish with a victorian two-panel design. The gold handles matches the gold accents on our bookshelf altar, and the white trim around the doors enhance the modern farmhouse aesthetic. We've also added pet flap cutouts on each door allowing Daikon to enter and exit the rooms freely. 
Here's the view as you step into our master bedroom. The first piece of furniture we bought for the home is actually the massage chair (#priorities). It's definitely on the bulkier side, but it works wonders for ironing out our tense knots and we're pleased it comes in a grey and gold colorway which keeps the space looking light. On the right, our custom wardrobe features a curved indent pattern that adds interest and depth to the otherwise sleek, minimal design. Behind the massage chair, we've set up a play mat, which marks one of Daikon's designated play areas. It also adds a playful element to the space! Here's the other side of our master bedroom. We've retained the original parquet flooring in both bedrooms as we felt it complements the aesthetic. The warm tones and patterns add character and a sense of continuity throughout the space. Most of our master bedroom walls are painted with a textured finish that resembles a limewash effect — we love it for its low maintenance and calming tone. The wall opposite the bed, however, is kept white to serve as a projection screen. The projector is set up on one of our side tables! Whether we're relaxing in bed or lounging in the massage chair (which is angled perfectly for viewing), we can enjoy our favorite shows comfortably. 
Did you spot our bathroom from the picture above? Here's a closer look at it. The sliding pocket door aligns with our wardrobe, discreetly sliding behind it when opened. We chose a different shade of wood for the tiles here compared to the living room, complemented by grey tiles with subtle marble veins that add an elegant touch. All the fittings in this bathroom are fully concealed, creating a clean and uncluttered aesthetic. 
Now, we arrive at the final room in our home tour: our study. This space features no built-ins, allowing for maximum flexibility. It includes two desks set up for work-from-home needs, providing a functional environment. We furnished this room with adaptability in mind, allowing us to easily change its layout or purpose as our needs evolve in the future. The linen curtains in this room adds a soft, airy touch, enhancing its overall warmth. To add some visual interest, we decided to paint the lower half of the wall in a taupe color, breaking up the monotony. We're also considering installing some wall shelves to provide some display options while keeping the space functional and stylish. That wraps up our home tour! ourcarousellhomeOh, you did what we originally thought we could do—combine Bedroom 2 with the master bedroom! We struggled with the AC ledge in the master, which made wardrobe space a challenge. In the end, we adjusted, but our bed ended up facing the toilet, which wasn’t ideal. These days, we are feeling major regret for the MBR because of that. Wish we took the option of turning MBR space into a wardrobe space too, ><5 months ago- hellokokoroCreatorAhh yes, one part of our wardrobe actually hides the aircon ledge behind it! Will probably show it in the bedroom post. There are definitely pros and cons to consider when choosing between a bigger room with only 2 rooms overall or having 3 rooms. We can’t really have any guest stay over for instance 😅Your home looks amazing though - love all the curved features!5 months ago
